About Us

Welcome to The Owl Cafe

We have been keeping and rearing Owls for over 30 years.
Our Owl Sanctuary is set in the beautiful Peak District Derbyshire where we also keep Geese and some Rare breed King Pigeons.
Over many years we have also taken in many birds of prey as rescues some have been restored to full health and released, however some although recovered have stayed with us due to not being able to fend for themselves in the wild mainly those that have suffered major wing or leg damage and whilst we have the facilities to look after many we do rely on our contacts and volunteers to take birds on that cannot be released.
The Owls that we are using for our Owl Café are all captive breed from our own captive breed parents and were taken away at around 9 days old and hand reared together in our Owl crèche this allows the birds to all get along and not fear each other and also allows us to interact with them from an early stage and trust us.
We train all our captive Owls to fly and ensure that they have the room to be able to fly around when they are not out on display and our Avery’s are large and filled with trees and bushes to give them as natural environment as possible to live in.
It takes us on average six months to fully train each Owl to accept us and become hand tame as this is very important to us it ensures that our Owls are happy when in social company and are not scared of hands or being grabbed by over enthusiastic children and adults.
We take our Owls to Schools for both normal and special needs pupils as the benefits are huge for both the children and the owls, this we do on a no fee basis and is funded purely by us.
